In honor of the 40th anniversary of Stonewall, ’altogetherqueer’ is presenting a multi-sensory visual and language-based art exhibit during New York City’s Pride Week. The show runs June 18-28 at The Garage, 548 W. 28th St. (between 10th and 11th in the heart of the Chelsea Art District).

The installation features the works of many of today’s innovative artists, who showcase the queer movement over the past 40 years. From Judy Garland to Carrie Prejean, these are the issues that define the gay American experience.

Artist and activist Laughlin Artz is curating the exhibit and hopes the cutting edge and raw art featured will inspire youth--gay and straight--to join in the fight of our generation’s biggest civil rights issue - gay rights. Even if not, it’s interesting art!

Colt model

Not really, but he’s wearing the underwear brand.

Cheeky!

Only in New York does a naked guy in the middle of town warrant barely a glance.

EEK! It’s Carrie Prejean

If anyone deserves an ironic cartoon, it’s the (now, mercifully former) Miss California USA and anti-gay marriage advocate.

Florent, now "for rent"

Restaurant Florent was a much-beloved pioneer of the now painfully chic Meatpacking District. The eponyous Florent was a flamboyant advocate for gay rights, fighting AIDS, and all things French.

i was at a preview tonight and it’s an amazing show, including the paintings shown here in this article by olan and also some very moving collaborative work, laughlin artz’ poetry combined with visual artist and filmaker vincent gagliostro and filmakers adam hardman and consuelo gonzalez. it’s worth a stop - opening night should be packed and fun!
