We can all agree that Mondays are a drag! The first day of the week just can’t escape its bum rap, but now "Mundane Mondays" are getting a serious makeover and a new attitude. Barracuda, Chelsea’s most celebrated neighborhood hangout, is giving us all a reason to Fabreeze our Sunday’s finest and extend the weekend to Mondays launching its 8-week search for "the next generation" of drag superstars with "NY DragFest 2013."

Having proven themselves in primetime, drag queens have been a popular attraction at the 22nd Street mainstay. "Barracuda has always had a long history of nurturing great new talent," said Bob Pontarelli, owner and proprietor of the Hell’s Kitchen haunt Industry Bar. Most of New York City’s biggest drag personalities have emerged from Barracuda. "It’s something we’re very proud of. It’s always been very close to our hearts."

Keeping up the tradition of introducing the most cutting edge talent on the scene, "NY DragFest 2013" is promising to spotlight some of nightlife’s freshest painted faces. Some of the lesser-known ladies will be front and center for the pleasure of the Monday night marauders who need a fix of kinky boots and colored wigs.

Tomorrow’s Stars...Today!

A rotating cast of headliners featuring glamour girls Kittin Withawhip, Thorgy Thor, Brenda Darling, Ginger Snaps and more, will be introduced as some of the drag ingenues vying for affection.

"This isn’t the first drag boom NYC has seen," drag sensation Kittin Withawhip tells us. "We are moving towards a culture that is more about being an individual than it is about blending in." Thanks to a television reality competition phenomenon (soon premiering a new season), audiences have been introduced to the artists bringing the gender illusion into the mainstream. "When you do drag you are creating EVERYTHING!" Kittin continues: "You are the director, costume designer, stylist, hairdresser, makeup artist, and writer. You can do what you want, and in NYC they are going to praise you as long as you are true to yourself."

Along with her good-and-plenty cast of cohorts, Kittin is certain audiences will be in for a treat. "It’s safe to say that you will have no clue what to expect. With such eclectic people as YouTube sensation, Maddox Madison, and pageant queen, Sabel Cities, each night will be a true experience...and each queen is featuring tons of other queens from around the city."

Kittin is sharpening her claws and getting her comedic catnip together. "I will force you to laugh at things that you won’t want to." And the rest of the cast is ready to bring it! "NYC queens don’t give you want you want! We give you what you need."

There’s no charge to experience "NY DragFest 2013" at Barracuda and don’t expect anyone to lip-sync for their lives, but you may be among the first to catch a glimpse of the "Drag Superstar of Tomorrow" Monday night.

"NY DragFest 2013" begins Monday, Jan. 21 and will continue for 8-weeks consecutively at Barracuda, 275 West 22nd Street, Chelsea.
