Housing Works is a healing community of people living with and affected by HIV/AIDS. Our mission is to end the dual crises of homelessness and AIDS through relentless advocacy, the provision of lifesaving services, and entrepreneurial businesses that sustain our efforts.
With the support of sponsors such as Traditional Home, HSBC Private Bank, Valspar Paint, and SFERRA, Design on a Dime 2011 will raise funds for Housing Works’ newest residence, the Jefferson Avenue Housing Program in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn.
The Jefferson Avenue Housing Program, the beneficiary of this year’s Design on a Dime, will provide 12 apartments for homeless New Yorkers living with HIV/AIDS. The residence, which will have a green roof as well as other environmentally friendly features, will be located in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood, one of the New York communities hardest hit by AIDS. Funded in part by the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Jefferson Avenue is slated to be completed by 2012.
